I added a Trails/Runs section - starting with Trapping Valley Trails. I moved the .kmz link so it is below the capture. There are now 2 .kmz's WholeMap.kmz and TrappingValley.kmz.

Big White Out of Bounds

Many of us go out of bounds at Big White either on snow shoes or skies. Last year Carlan Silha and I did a back side loop on AT gear (Gem Lake chair back to the Black Forest). This year I'm hearing of more and more people with AT gear so I thought as a first step it would be nice to at least get some features (Ridges, Peaks, Clear Cuts, Dead Trees or what ever you want?) named so it is easier to talk to each other. So as a start I have a Google Earth folder with some names.

Also I am not encouraging anyone to go out of bounds based on the information on this site.

If you have Google Earth loaded on your computer, you can load my maps from the links that appear below some Google Earth Captures (pictures).
If you are using Internet Explorer right click the link and do a "save target as" to some temporay location. Note that ie will try to change the name. For example WholeMap.kmz becomes WholeMap.zip - change it back to WholeMap.kmz. Then double click the file (WholeMap.kmz) you saved and Google Earth should start.
If you are using Firefox just click the link and open with Google Earth.

Features: Please give me a better name if you have one - if you haven't heard of the name I'm using it is because I made it up.

One feature I question is what I call the Whitefoot Ridge - do people called what I'm calling the East Ridge the Foot of Big White.

Horse Shoe Ridges that enclose the back side
West Ridge North pointing ridge (from Gem Lake)
East Ridge North pointing ridge (from East Peak)
Whitefoot East pointing ridge (from East Peak) skiers right in Smokers Bowl
The CC The Clear Cut
Backside CC The Backside Clear Cut - inside the horseshoe east side of West Ridge
Knucklehead CC The Knucklehead Clear Cut - you have to walk thru here to get to The Other CC
The Other CC The Other Clear Cut - you can ski this without skins (return via 2 John lake rd and hitch hike)
West Kettle CC The West Kettle Cut - inside the horseshoe west side of East Ridge
Both the Upper Road and 2 John Lake Road pass thru this CC.
Both roads have a bridge for a drainage that feeds the West Kettle River
East Peak This is sometimes called Grey Mountain??
Smokers Bowl
Mini Cliff This rock face is at the end of ridge skiers left in Smokers Bowl
Small Bowl Bowl north of Smokers Bowl on East Ridge
Whitefoot CC The Whitefoot Clear Cut is at the east end of the Whitefoot ridge.
The drainages at the south and north end of the CC Y together to form the Whitefoot Creek
Trapping Ridge The north pointing ridge above Cougar Cuttoff-Snow Mobile Trail.
The drainages between Cliff Ski Out and Trapping ridge become Trapping Creek
Trapping CC The Clear Cut just south of Whitefoot CC
White House CC The Clear Cut just north of Whitefoot CC.
The White House snowmobile cabin is on the north edge of the CC.
2 John Lake CC The Clear Cut just north of White House CC.
The 2 John Lake Rd terminates here. The snowmobile trail heading to Moore Mountain goes thru the center
Van Laak Peak This is the peak above the burnt down Van Laak Emergency Hut on the X country Trails.
Note that on the 30-50 year plan they call this East Peak, so maybe East Peak will have to be called Gray Mountain.
Y Road West fork of the Y is an extension of the Porcupine Cutoff X country trail.
East fork leads to base of Van Laak Peak
MoonLight Bowl Bowl just out of bounds north of Sun Rype Bowl and above MoonLight Run
