Out of Bounds Trips
Ski The Clear Cut
Most of us have skied the CC - see the Google Capture
Ski The Other Clear Cut
I have skied the Other CC twice. First with Jim Oman when we tried to
hit the top and we did a lot of flat tree walking (Knucklehead flats) -
the GPS track is in RED on the Google Capture.
The 2nd time 5 of us went out and we walked the Upper Road to the Other CC -
the GPS track is in YELLOW on the Google Capture. I noted a bridge over the
West Kettle River. When skating out on 2 John Lake Road always stay on the south side
of the river don't take any left Y's onto other forestry roads.
Snow Shoe around Back Side
2 Years ago I Snow Shoed from the West Ridge parking lot, Up MoonLight Run, accross The CC,
thru the trees to Upper Road, around the end of the East Ridge, past the Mini Cliff, around Smokers Bowl
and home to Timber Ridge. This is a full day trip
Ski around Back Side
Last Year Carlan and I skied down the West Ridge to the Upper Road skinned up the East Ridge skied down the Small Bowl
and below the Mini Cliff to the south end of the Whitefoot CC, then skated down Cougar Cutoff thru Trapping CC and took the
X Country Trail Upper Copper Kettle back to the Black Forest. We had intended to skin back up to the Black Forest Highway
before we hit the Whitefoot CC and we should have done this but you know how skis like to go down hill. The Red Path on the
Google Earth Capture shows where we deviated from our plan.
Backside CC
2008-2009 We have skied down to the Backside CC numerous times this year.
We then skin up and go back high enough to catch The CC and back to the Gem.
Y Road - Van Laak Peak
2008-2009 We have skied to the Y Road numerous times and have continued up Van Laak
Peak twice. There is no easy way to skin back. I still prefer to take Trapping Ridge Trail
back to the LCM. We have also tried returning via Upper Copper Kettle.
Below Mini Cliff
2008-2009 We did 1 Trip down the backside of the East Peak saddle, skin up to the East Ridge and skied
the Small Bowl just below Mini Cliff.
Saddle to Backside CC
2008-2009 Had a very pleasant trek on a sunny day down the backside of the East Peak saddle
and angle our way to Backside CC. Skinned up to get to The CC.
2 John Lake
2009 - I have snow shoed into 2 John Lake many times. The 1st few times I fought my way in from the Whitehouse CC.
Later I found a reasonable way in by coming up the drainage that comes out of the north end of the lake.
This year by looking at google earth I realized there is a ridge that falls off to the lake. You start right at the
end of the point in the 2 John Lake CC and stay on the ridge until the lake appears.
