SUPPLY LIST

 

Well who knows what one should take. Two thoughts: either take everything but the kitchen sink or go light with the clothes on your back.

THINGS TO REMEMBER

·         bring a good book

·         burnable

·         autobiographical

·         current to trip

·         research pays off

·         don’t over estimate needs as you have to carry increased weight when you are already tired

·         Keep log of pictures as taken

·         haircut prior trip as we take pictures!

·          Log papers at least 2 per day out or a laptop

·          don’t forget your sense of humor and compassion!

This is not a race, but a bonding holiday together.

 

The following is what we are taking to California and if it’s too much we have several options:  send  it home Greyhound,  give it away, or throw it in the ditch!  Being cold is no fun so we added  a few cold weather items for the Canadian leg.


EQUIPMENT

·         Panniers  front and back                    Pack  bottom heavy

·         sleeping bag in dry bag for each

·         thermarest ultralight air mattress (in with sleeping bag) for each

·         North Face Kestrel 2 person Tent with pegs  /Poles  (6lb/1lb9oz)

·          Headlight/tail light extra batteries (for cycleodometer too)

·         2 Helmets

·         Digital Camera & cables  (1lb9oz)

·         IBM ThinkPad & cables  (4lbs)

·         pen/paper for when the laptop is off!

·         nylon rope for clothes line 

·         2 Bungee cords

·          4 Locks and 2 cables (with same keys) extra locks are for lockers

COOKING GEAR  (2lbs) (3lbs stove)

·         plate /fork/spoon/cup each

·         1 pot  with coleman ultralight stove/gas

·         3 water bottles

·         dish rag/dish soap

·         swiss army knife, BIC lighter

·         water purifier kit  

 

fire starter kit:  waterproof matches/butane lighter & fire starting material ie tea candles

FIRST AIDE KIT   (12oz)

 Hand/wound cloth, 1 tria bandage, gloves, 1tensor; candle; white tape; matches;  2x2;

Insect repellant with deet: take 1 enteric coated ASA/day to keep itching down or Ibuprofen

safety pins; advil, ASA, polysporin, butterflys, bandaids, padded opsite, tegaderm

 

REPAIR KIT for clothes/tent/pack:  needle & thread; fishing line for thread  

BIKE CLEANING KIT: (9oz)

 cleaning supplies:  2 rags, Bell Pro degreaser, denture brush

 

BIKE REPAIR KIT  (2 lbs)

·         patch kit/ tire levers

·         spare tube/tires

·         alan wrenchs, crescent wrench

·         chain tool, chain pins

·         optional:  spare cables, spare spokes , spare brake shoes, spoke wrench

·         pump, pressure guage

·          multitool & screwdriver attachments

·         chain wax ,   zip ties

·         rag/gloves!!,

CLOTHES: (7lbs)

·         biking shoes and rain booties

·         1 long sleeved fleece shirt/1tee shirt

·         2 tank tops (light nylon)

·         fleece vest & windstop jacket

·         3 bandanas

·         biking gloves and liners/ear warmer

·         rain/wind jacket (gortex jacket)

·         2 bike shorts/

FOOD    usually need goodies only and buy as you go for food

We will take one emergency meal of Soup Works and buy each day for the next noting where we can buy for the following day.  We will carry the following staples:

·         Peanut butter

·         Pepper grinder and corns

·         Fruit cake, granola bars, nuts, gorpe

·         Dried fruit

·         Soya protein powder
